Searching the Iron County Court Docket
Start an Iron County court docket search through Utah Courts Xchange. Xchange is the statewide repository for District and Justice Court case information. Data flows in from CORIS as court staff enter it. You can search District, Justice, or both, statewide, Iron County only, or a single court. A full case number is the strongest key. For traffic matters, try the citation number instead. Name and company searches work best with the filed spelling plus a supported wildcard.
Skip the broad common-name search first. Xchange caps results at 500. Narrow by Iron County, court, case type, and a filing or disposition range. Case numbers are not necessarily unique statewide. So confirm the court location and filing date before trusting a match.
- Select District, Justice, or both jurisdictions.
- Set Iron County or a known court as the scope.
- Enter a case number, citation, name, or company.
- Open Case History and verify its header and party roles.
- Use the calendar for a future date and the clerk for a missing paper.
Courts That Keep Dockets in Iron County
Iron County runs two main adult docket channels. Cedar City District Court sits in Utah's Fifth Judicial District and takes felonies, class A misdemeanors, broad civil matters, domestic cases, probate, and judgments. Iron County Justice Court handles most class B and C misdemeanors, infractions, traffic and parking matters, and small claims. Both courts' histories can appear in Xchange, but each keeps its own clerk and calendar.
| Court | What it handles | How to begin |
|---|---|---|
| Cedar City District Court | Felony, class A misdemeanor, civil, domestic, probate | Xchange District scope |
| Iron County Justice Court | Class B/C misdemeanor, infraction, traffic, parking, small claims | Xchange Justice scope |
| Fifth District Juvenile Court | Delinquency and child welfare | Authorized request to juvenile clerk |
Juvenile cases are not a routine public Xchange source. If you are legally entitled to a record, call the Cedar juvenile clerk at 435-867-3200. Keep in mind that a blank public search does not prove no proceeding exists.
Inside an Iron County Court Docket
The practical docket sheet in Utah is the case history. It opens with the court, case number and type, filing date, judge, parties, and roles. From there it may list criminal charges or civil pleadings, attorneys, settings, pleas, rulings, disposition, accounting, and a chronological run of proceedings. Public District documents filed since July 1, 2010 exist. They may be available through a separate purchase action.
| Header | Court, location, case type, number, filing date, and judge. |
|---|---|
| Parties | Names and official party-role codes where public. |
| Events | Filings, hearings, pleas, orders, judgments, and later action. |
| Setting | A scheduled date that should be checked against the live calendar. |
| Disposition | The coded result, often clarified by the controlling order. |
| Documents | Public images available separately when the system carries them. |
Remember, a history is not the whole case file. An old converted record may be sparse, and a public case header does not make every document open.
Iron County Docket Versus Calendar
The Iron County docket answers what court staff entered. The calendar answers when a hearing is set. Utah's calendar index keeps District and Justice calendars separate. The Justice search form accepts case, party, judge, attorney, bar number, date, and location, and it can sort by judge, case name, or date and time. Calendar data updates weekdays at about 5:30 a.m.
| Source | Best question | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Xchange history | What has happened? | May not show a late calendar change |
| Court calendar | When and where is the setting? | Does not prove an outcome |
| Clerk | Is a critical setting current? | Contact the correct court |
Remote links appear only when supplied. For virtual jail hearings, call Iron County Justice Court for the Webex link. Never record, photograph, or transmit a court proceeding.
How to Find Court Dates and Settings
Pick the calendar matching the court shown in the case header. Search the exact date. The default current-day view will not show an earlier or later setting. If a hearing vanishes or shifts, check the Xchange history for a continuance or reset. Then call the clerk. A continuance only changes timing. It does not end the case.
Cedar City District Court uses 435-867-3250. Iron County Justice Court uses 435-865-5335. The county court calendar also carries the local remote-hearing instruction. For fields, resets, missed settings, and confirmation steps, see the full Iron County Court Dates walkthrough.
Note: Keep the court, case number, setting date, and search date together. Do this whenever you save a calendar reference.
Iron County Search Fields Explained
The best filter depends on what you know. Case number is precise but still needs court scope. Citation number helps with Justice traffic matters. Name search is sensitive to filed spelling, and company names belong in the last-name/company field. Birth date may help distinguish public results when lawful, but personal details should not be copied into public notes.
| Field | Use | Caution |
|---|---|---|
| Jurisdiction | District, Justice, or both | Wrong choice can hide a matter |
| Search type | All cases or judgments only | Judgments search omits other cases |
| Scope | Statewide, county, or court | Broad scope can hit the result cap |
| Date panel | Filing, disposition, or judgment dates | Choose the event being researched |
| Case type | Limit by official Utah category | Codes are filters, not outcomes |
Open the official Xchange help page for live field instructions and wildcard rules.
Public Access to Court Dockets
Utah does not treat each court filing the same. UCJA Rule 4-202.02 classifies records as public, private, protected, or sealed. Rule 4-202.03 sets who may access them, and Rule 4-202.04 governs written requests, classification, redaction, denial, and review.
Key access point: Anyone may request a public court record. Private, protected, and sealed records require legal entitlement or a court order. Juvenile, expunged, and sealed matters do not appear like ordinary public Xchange results.
Public court information has clear uses. Track your own case, confirm a hearing, understand court work, support history research, or follow a public matter. But never republish protected personal, medical, financial, victim, or minor information.
Why an Iron County Case Vanishes
A missing result may be a search issue, an access rule, or a routing issue. Try the exact case or citation number. Switch among District, Justice, and both. Check the filed name and wildcard guidance, then search a nearby filing range. If it still will not surface, the case may be juvenile, sealed, expunged, private, or too old for detailed conversion. It may also be in federal court instead.
- Wrong court or jurisdiction selection
- Name change, misspelling, suffix, or alias difference
- New matter not yet entered by court staff
- Old converted history with limited detail
- Restricted, sealed, expunged, or juvenile status
- Federal, bankruptcy, or administrative venue
Before making a broad request, call 435-867-3250 for District routing or 435-865-5335 for Justice routing. Court staff can confirm the right channel without opening a nonpublic file.
Docket Records at the Clerk's Office
Utah Courts maintains the state judicial case systems. The Iron County Clerk is a county-government office. It is not the primary keeper of District or Justice dockets. For District records, use the Cedar City District Court clerk. For Justice records, use the Iron County Justice Court clerk. Online Xchange, the correct calendar, telephone routing, an in-person counter, a District public terminal, and a written record request are all distinct access channels.

The Justice Court keeps its doors open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Bring cash early. The counter stops taking it at 4:00 p.m. Before you travel, call ahead about terminal access, accommodations, or any remote-hearing problem.
Iron County Record Request Steps
If a document you want is not online, send a request to the court. That court holds the record. Expect an answer through the statewide process in about 10 business days. The local Justice form also warns that release may take up to 10 business days. Day ten is a outer limit, not a promise.
- Name the court and give the case or citation number.
- State the date and exact document, order, or recording sought.
- Choose inspection or a copy and name the preferred format.
- Explain legal entitlement if the item is not public.
- Wait for staff to state any fee before payment.
Looking at a public record usually costs nothing. You may pay for copies, staff time, certification, mail, media, or a transcript. Want audio? Ask the court where the hearing took place. A transcript is its own separate written product.
Parowan's Iron County Docket Handoff
Every Parowan case now lives at Iron County Justice Court. The city Justice Court handed off its full docket, calendars, payments, and clerk services to the county court on July 1, 2025. So a current traffic ticket or misdemeanor matter goes through the county, full stop. One caution: older entries still bear the Parowan label. That label is history, not proof of a separate working court. It should stay intact in the record. Dating the filing settles the question. For an older Parowan case, run an Xchange docket search. Keep the old label and the new county routing both in mind. For anything current, call Iron County Justice Court at 435-865-5335. Do not confuse this handoff with Parowan District Court. That court sits in the Fifth District and is a different court entirely. Old listings on stale pages can repeat outdated court names. So confirm current service through official Utah Courts and Iron County sources.
Iron County Docket Workload
The caseload numbers explain why an Iron County docket search needs filters. In FY2023, the District Court logged 837 criminal filings and 824 dispositions. The Justice Court reported 1,186 misdemeanor filings with 1,054 dispositions. Traffic was the heaviest load by far, at 7,516 citations. A pending report dated January 2, 2026 counted 2,122 open Justice Court cases. Of those, 589 were criminal. Another 1,483 were traffic or parking, and 50 were general civil.
These are workload totals for the Iron County court system, not names on a list. Nothing here shows guilt, an outcome, or why any case has sat as long as it has.
Iron County Docket Codes
Case-type, party-role, judgment, and disposition codes speed up a court docket search. Read them without context, though, and they mislead. A code only tells you how the clerk indexed an event. The filed order carries the legal weight.
- PLA / DEF
- Plaintiff and defendant.
- PET / RES
- Petitioner and respondent.
- GP
- Guilty plea.
- PA
- Plea in abeyance.
- DI / DW
- Dismissed with prejudice or without prejudice.
- TR
- Transferred.
A charge code on an Iron County court docket is not a finding of guilt. Codes describe entries, not outcomes. Before drawing any conclusion, check the official code list, read the chronological case history, and rely on the controlling order from the court.
Iron County Court Dockets by City
Not every one of Iron County's five profiled cities runs its own municipal docket portal. Cedar City serves as the main adult court hub. Enoch sends eligible Justice Court work to the county court. Parowan's city Justice Court handed off service in 2025. Paragonah and Kanarraville depend on county or District routes depending on case type. A city label can point to where a case began. Yet the court named in the case header is the one that counts.
Cedar City Docket Search
District, Justice, and Juvenile court service hub.
Enoch Docket Search
Justice matters route through Iron County.
Parowan Docket Search
Current Justice service follows the 2025 transfer.
Paragonah Docket Search
Use county Justice or Fifth District scope.
Kanarraville Docket Search
Use citation, case number, and correct court.
These city routes keep local context without pretending municipal courts exist where they do not. Whatever route you take, confirm the court and clerk listed in the official case history.
Iron County Federal Docket Boundary
A federal case tied to Iron County will never surface in Utah Courts Xchange. The District of Utah assigns Iron County to its Southern Region and Central Division. Federal civil and criminal dockets live in PACER. Bankruptcy matters go through the District of Utah Bankruptcy Court's own channels, and the St. George federal courthouse is the closest Southern Region location.
Start with the PACER Case Locator to find the federal case number. Then open that court's own docket for the controlling filings. Federal public terminals and clerk counters are separate from Utah state-court terminals. Some agency matters stay with the agency unless judicial review opens a court case. Check venue before assuming a missing Iron County result means no record exists.
Map and Directions to the Cedar City District Court

The Iron County Justice Court, which handles traffic, parking, infractions, and small claims, keeps a separate docket a few blocks away at 82 North 100 East, Suite 101.
